It may be a combination of the following treatments:

TEETH WHITENING:

Teeth whitening is non invasive cosmetic dental treatment, can be achieved reliably and safely by bleaching agents to make the teeth bright and white again.

Teeth can discolour from various agents and factors including consumption of food and drinks, smoking, certain medications and dental problems to name a few. In most situations, we can whiten teeth by using bleaching agents which are safe and have no damaging effects on your teeth. It is important to consult the dentist first to see if this treatment is suitable for you.

Before bleaching can be performed, the dentist performs a thorough examination to determine the type of staining present, if there are any cavities and if you have significant restorative work present in the zone of treatment. The type of staining may determine if the treatment will work. Sometimes the staining can be removed with just a thorough scale and clean. If you have any cavities in the region of treatment, they will require fillings before bleaching as not doing so may lead to sensitivity during and after treatment. Teeth with fillings and crowns do not change colour after bleaching which means they may mismatch the newly whitened teeth, it is important to plan ahead on how to match them up.

There are three types of bleaching services provided by the dentist; most people are concerned with “take-home” or “in-chair” whitening. In chair whitening takes one appointment of about 60-90 minutes, and the sensitivity is of a shorter duration. It does cost more than take-home treatment as it requires the dentist to perform the treatment, but it can be quite gratifying to achieve instant results. Take-home bleaching requires a specially made set of trays which you wear each day/night for 30-60 minutes for a period of 2-3 weeks. The sensitivity from bleaching and your diet guidelines set out by the dentist will last for the duration of treatment. The sensitivity is a result of the bleaching agents unblocking the pores in the tooth which contain the stains. Use of certain agents can reduce the sensitivity

VENEERS & CROWNS:

Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth to cover imperfections in your teeth or to straighten your teeth without braces in certain circumstances. Imperfections that can be covered by veneers include:

  • Undesirably shaped teeth,
  • Worn down teeth,
  • Broken teeth or
  • Badly stained/discoloured or pitted teeth.

Composite veneers are a cost-effective alternative to porcelain veneers. These are the veneers built in the mouth to cover the front of visible teeth to improve your smile.

Dental veneers can be used on all visible teeth to change the colour, shape & smile for a total smile makeover.

A dental crown is a dental restoration which caps and encircles a tooth or a dental implant, which improves the strength and appearance of teeth and increases the life span of compromised teeth.

IMPLANTS, BRIDGES and DENTURES:

Missing teeth in adults can be replaced by dentures, bridges and dental implants.

Full dentures are used to replace all missing teeth and are made of plastic.

Partial dentures are used to replace a few missing teeth, where the remaining teeth will provide support to the denture with the help of clasps [metal wires] which go around the remaining natural teeth. Partial dentures can be made of plastic or a combination of plastic and metal.

Immediate dentures are the dentures fabricated before the teeth are extracted. Immediate dentures are placed in the mouth right after tooth/teeth extraction so that there is no period of being without teeth. With immediate dentures, we have less control over how they look and they need to be relined as the gums heal.

Dental Implants are permanently fixed replacements for missing teeth that look and function like natural teeth and restore eating, speaking and looking back to normal.

Bridges are used to replace teeth that are already missing or damaged beyond repair. Using a dental crown, they are permanently attached to the adjacent teeth.
